Kent International Jamboree 2013 - July 2013

Scout camp this year was the KIJ 2013. This is what the Scouts thought.

Last week the 1st Heybridge Scouts and Explorers went to the Kent International Jamboree along with thousands of other Scouts and Guides from all over the world, including places like Kenya and Poland. It was a fantastic and memorable week with lots of activities that kept us busy. To kick off the week we had an opening ceremony which included raising flags from each country that was taking part and a lot of singing from some of the site team. We were all relieved when afterwards the singing was replaced with an outdoor disco. The atmosphere was immense with all the people there, there were even people crowd surfing! We had two days of activities which we could choose from. These included bungee trampoline, go-karting, climbing, and power kiting. In the evenings we had free time where we could go out and make friends with people. On one day our Scout group all went on a day trip to Hastings, near the beach. We made 2 sand sculptures together which showed real scouting teamwork. Some of us also went swimming in the sea. Later we went up to the top of a hill to play a game of rounders and get some ice cream. We then all walked up to the high street to do some shopping. On the last day we had a closing ceremony where they lowered the flags and we had two special guests; David Walliams and Bear Grylls. We also had a rock concert which, like the disco had an amazing atmosphere. Altogether it was an amazing week.

For me the Kent Jamboree was one of the best camps I've been on with the Scouts. I have been to Tolmers camp for summer, which is also good, but it was nice to have a change and go to a jamboree where you could earn badges and make lots of new friends. A great thing about this camp was there were people from all over the world, I met people from Luxemburg, Germany, Nigeria, Amsterdam and France, I think that's amazing that I've met people who are from half way around the world! The activities were great fun, I took part in archery, lazer quazer, shooting, made woggles, rope and goo. I visited the planetarium and went on inflatable assault course. I had a go at giant foozball and in the evenings went to the cinema and played lots of poker. I would definitely go again if a Jamboree were on offer.
