Cub Southend Trip - February 2011

We drove by car to Southend and we arrived at around 10.00am. The first thing we did was walk to the museum. It wasn't very far and it took less than a minute to get there. We learned about Marconi and a little about wildlife too, in their new exhibit. There was also an exhibit about the war. There was a gift shop there and we brought some roman coins and a crystal. Then we went to the Planetarium which was amazing! They showed us how the stars would look at 7.00pm that night. The man explained the stories about the star formations like Orion's Belt and we saw the North Star, which never moves!. We learned that the power of the galaxies combined in a few billion years will cause the big crunch – like the big band two. We then walked through the town towards the pier. When we got there, it was so windy that when we jumped in the air we didn't land in the same place!

We walked to the very end of the pier and we went behind a building and saw a life boat being lifted from the water. There was no fishing on the pier as it was too cold. Next we started to eat our lunch. When we dropped any food birds came down and ate it. While we were halfway through eating Akela spotted a seal in the sea. It appeared three times. Everyone ran up to see it but not everyone saw it first time. After we had our lunch we headed back down the pier and it was still very windy. We walked through the town back to the cars and drove home again All in all we thought the day was fantastic and could not have been any better. We would love to do it again. Thank you leaders, you made our day.
