Scouts & Explorers Peak District Trip, Gradbach

Another year and another trip to the Peak District. The Friday evening saw us once again pack into a number of vehicles for the trip north to Gradbach, this year however, it was neither raining nor thick fog for the journey. Having arrived, there was time for exploring the farmhouse and the surounding campsite before supper and bed. The sun was trying to shine in the morning as, after breakfast, six groups of walkers set off for the Roaches for some rock climbing. Their routes hopefully staggering their arrival. A good days walking and climbing was had by all, despite the arrival of the low cloud and mist later in the afternoon. After a filling meal, the evening's entertainment as usual saw much hilarity as the Scouts (and a few leaders) tried their hand, or in the case of the table their entire body, at a number of unusual games! It was then supper and time for bed. Sunday morning saw the sun so, following breakfast and tidying the farmhouse we departed to the Monsal Trail for our leisurely days group walk. Part of the trail took us along the side of the river which at certain points decided that it preferred to flow along the path so some paddling was in order or, for those only wearing trainers, being carried by Sam! At the end of the trail, atop the viaduct, a number of presentations and investitures were made to leaders before we climbed up out of the valley to where some of us enjoyed an icecream before departing on the journey home. Its already booked for next year, so put it in your diary once more.
