Nuclear Bunker Sleepover - February 2008

The third sleepover at the Secret Nuclear Bunker at Kelvedon Hatch once again proved to be a popular event for the Scouts and the older Cubs with additional help from the Explorers. After starting with a tour of the bunker we stopped for a packed tea before the Cubs and Scouts were divided into three groups for the activities. The activities consisted of abseiling down the main stairwell and air rifles and archery in the long main entrance corridor. After trying all three activities they all settled down to watch a film with an interval break for the now obligatory burger supper. I am not too sure how much sleep the young people got, but the male leaders kept getting woken up by a cockrell over the speaker system that kept crowing at twenty minute intervals from about 3.00am!! It was then up early in the morning for a wide game involving searching for pieces of a bomb to defuse before breakfast before departing out once more into the daylight.
