East Essex District Kart Rally - March 2006
Some of the Scouts had an alternative way to spend Mothering Sunday. The Lions entered two carts to compete against 5 other troops in the East Essex District Kart Rally at Prances camp site. Having passed scrutineering, a total of 11 karts competed against the clock over 10 stages.
Heybridge kart number 18 got off to a flying start, winning the first stage. They never looked like losing this initial lead and with four other stage wins took a lead of 48 seconds into the final stage. Despite trying to take a corner on two wheels they maintained form to secure victory over both the chasing Tiptree Mountbatten karts. Heybridge kart 19 got off to a slower start but team tactics brought them up to a very respectable 5th place including a win on stage 9. The pits were needed for running repairs on some of the competitors karts, but both the Heybridge karts proved reliable.
In true racing style the victors were presented with their trophies on the podium and then proceeded to spray each other with their victory champagne (well sparkling water anyway!!).
